I believe rich joy is not farther than an arm's reach away. Little dancing parties with my girls, building gingerbread houses with my family, painting faces with frosting, and watching my waving Anya get upset for having to leave daddy sick in bed to go to church, these are all things I have loved lately that suggest to me true richness is not measured by its weight in gold. The real worth of simple and eternal things we are promised to inherit as Children of God, does it not suddenly strip money of the status and "superior" identity we suppose it gives to us? This holiday season I want to focus on the "things that matter most", not the things that pit me against others and against God. Money should be a tool to bless the lives of our family and our neighbors, a more dignified pursuit than to be regarded as 'king of the (consumer) hill'. I feel so blessed to have a family who cares so deeply about me, a family that I can hope to grow with for forever. That is the most valuable gift of all. In the end,
"He that hath Eternal Life is rich." "For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God." |
